Background
The Croydon borough of Broad Green was our next stop on Tuesday, where again it was a theft allegation that needed to be resolved. This time, the business was one that had been handed down through generations. The owner was proud of his family business, cleaning windows, which had been started by his grandfather, who had cleaning rounds in Fairfield and Waddon boroughs of Croydon.
Over the years, the family had grown the business and now covered all of the Croydon boroughs. As family members joined, the business spread and now impressively covered a number of the Greater London towns, including Bromley, Barking, Romford, and Enfield.
The Incidents
The main payment method by the homeowners was to pay the window cleaner in cash, and over the previous two months, three window cleaners with rounds in Romford, Enfield, and Barking had been mugged and the day’s takings stolen.
The Tests
All three employees who had reported being mugged attended the Croydon office, and each one in turn passed the polygraph test. The three workers who said they had been mugged came to our Croydon office to take a lie detector test. Each one passed. This showed they were telling the truth and had not made up the stories or kept the money for themselves. The business owner was glad to know his team was honest. But now he also understood that the real problem was thieves in the area, and he needed to find better ways to keep his workers safe.
Outcome
The owner was actually delighted and was now able to move forward. He has also looked into our suggestion of taking mobile payments instead of cash.
The lie detector tests proved the window cleaners were honest and not to blame for the missing cash. This gave the business owner peace of mind and allowed him to trust his team while focusing on protecting them from real threats. For a family business built on hard work and reputation, the truth made all the difference.
